Each year millions of Texans hit the road and travel for the holidays. The holidays can be stressful enough, the last thing you want to do is add an auto accident to your list of thing to take care of. David Kohm and Associates have these reminders for you for safe travels this holiday season:
Don’t Drink and Drive:
Between holiday parties, sporting events, and family gatherings, the opportunities to drive after having cocktails will present themselves. No not engage in this reckless activity. Arrange a designated driver, call a cab or use a ride sharing service such as Lyft or Uber. Drinking and driving is never worth the risk.
Buckle Up:
State law requires every diver and passengers wear a seat belt all of the time. With the rush of the holiday season this may slip your mind, but be sure to buckle yourself and any children in. Make sure your adult passengers buckle up as well.
Be Clear Headed While on the Road:
You have lists galore: what to buy, what to cook, when each event is taking place. Distracted driving causes more accidents in Dallas on Texas roads than alcohol related incidents. Be aware of your driving. Do you best to clear your mind before taking to the road so that you can focus on the task at hand. Never text, email, or use other electronic devices while you are driving.
Use Your Best Judgment:
Everyone has obligations, but make good decisions. If you are tired, put tasks off until the next day, dont get behind the wheel while you are exhausted. If it is raining, slow down, people will understand if you are a little late because bad weather. If the roads are icy or flooded over, it may be best to choose not to drive. Again, your friends and loved ones should understand that sometimes mother nature intervenes in your plans.
We hope the drivers in the DFW Metroplex will take our advice and avoid dangerous situations on the roads not only during the holidays but everyday.
