It’s HOT!! You’re sitting in rush hour. Again. You could almost walk home and get there faster. And did we mention it was hot?
Heat and heavy traffic add lots of frustration to your commute to and from work. Tempers flare and everyone is pushing to MOVE. Drivers become more aggressive. That pick-up truck is on your tail and the little compact just zipped in front of you. Horns are honking and nobody is thinking about driving courteously. Sound like your drive home yesterday?
There are a few things that can help. Here are a some tips from the people who know about traffic problems.
SLOW DOWN. Honestly. Slowing down could help you get there more easily. It certainly can’t make it take any longer. Don’t try to push into every available gap in the next lane, just to gain a few feet of headway. If you watch, you’ll see that lanes alternate between moving and not moving. Mostly it’s from people moving from one lane to the next, so in the long run you just add to your stress level trying look for a way to force your way between cars. And it also increases your chance of causing or being in an accident.
BACK OFF Don’t ride the rear bumper of the car in front of you. For every 10 miles/hour you should have one car length in front of you so that you can stop when you need to. All it takes is you looking away for a few seconds and you crash into the car in front of you. Yes, the little compact might hop in front of you in the space you leave, but at least you won’t be hitting anyone!
BE COOL Have you air conditioner in your car serviced, even if normally it seems to be working fine. The added stress of idling your engine sitting in traffic can tax your cooling system and air conditioning.
You don’t need your car over heating and you don’t need your air conditioner gasping just to give you a little relief.
LEAVE EARLY Or Late. Sometimes just varying your departure time but a few minutes can put you in a different traffic dynamic. And just knowing you have an extra 15 minutes can take a lot of pressure off of you so you know your aren’t racing the clock to get to work on time.
BE PREPARED If the unfortunate occurs and you are the victim of an accident, make sure you contact an attorney ASAP! Some insurance companies will be reluctant to pay for an accident claim if they believe Road Rage might be a factor in the cause of the accident. Having an experienced and aggressive attorney can make sure your rights are protected and that you get the medial care and compensation you deserve.
