National Dog Bite Prevention Week: Facts and Figures

All this week we are celebrating National Dog Bite Prevention Week.

As the following infographic will show you, millions of dog bites happen each year—and not just to mail carriers. Children are unfortunately the most at risk for suffering from these types of injuries because of their inexperience with dogs and their natural senses of curiosity.

And not all injurious dog bites come from what society considers “aggressive breeds,” like pit bulls, terriers, and German shepherds. Even small dogs can become aggressive if they feel threatened or as if in danger.

That’s why prevention education is so important. No matter if you’re a pet parent or not, you have responsibilities to prevent these injuries from occurring.

  • Teach your children proper dog safety. Some tips are outlined in the infographic.
  • Train your dog. Proper training is a great way to prevent unwarranted aggressive behavior.
  • Know the signs of aggressive behavior. If you notice any of these in a dog, be wary.
  • Know what to do. If you ever come across an aggressive dog, have an action plan. Some tips are below.

If you’re ever injured by a dog, you need representation to help you achieve justice. Contact our Arlington law office for a free consultation by calling 817-204-0900.
